A coughing fit apparently contributed to an accident that closed northbound Delaware Route 1 overnight.

State police say it happened just before 10:30 Wednesday night. They say 48-year-old Georgia Mullett of North Carolina was having a coughing spell as she was driving a tractor trailer, and as she finished, she saw she was about to hit the rear of another tractor trailer.

Police say Mullett swerved her truck, but the tractor part hit the trailer of the other truck, and both traveled about 900 feet before stopping. Mullett's vehicle then caught fire, which severely damaged both vehicles.

Mullett was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was cited for careless driving. The other driver wasn't hurt.
