Carper touts Senate-passed farm bill
Senator Carper has high hopes for a farm bill that's cleared the Senate-- he says it would cut the deficit and help Delmarva's agricultural industry.

Carper tells WDEL News the measure also contains provisions protecting Maryland's aquacultural industry by preserving the Chesapeake Bay.

The Democrat says the bill, which still has to pass the House, would trim the deficit by ending federal subsidies for farmers NOT to grow crops, encouraging farmers to diversify their crop output, and by allowing the purchase of insurance for specialty crops.
