Markell, Coons join Independence Day festivities
By Amy Cherry

Everybody loves a parade, including politicians.

Gov. Jack Markell and Sen. Chris Coons were among the elected officials expected to take to the streets Wednesday as Delawareans gathered to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

Coons and Markell both planned to start their days in Laurel at the town's 18th annual Fourth of July celebration, which included a prayer breakfast at the Georgia House restaurant.

Following the prayer breakfast, Coons planned to travel to Smyrna later in the morning to walk in that town's parade.

He and Markell also planned to make afternoon appearances at Hockessin's Fourth of July parade, with the governor then traveling to Dover for an American Legion Independence Day parade.
