A compact field of 7 horses is entered for Saturday's 75th running of the Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park.
Two horses , ranked one and two among older female horses in the country, are the two favorites for Saturday's race. Royal Delta, the top ranked older female, is the favorite at 7-5 odds and will break from the number one position...oddsmaker Chris Sobocinski says Royal Delta's performance at Churchill Downs June 16th makes her the favorite.

"She was the star of the night, and that was a card that also had the handicapped boys on the card. Everyone spoke very highly of the race. I watched the race...it was spectacular. So that was what made the decision of making her the morning line favorite."
Awesome Maria, the 2nd ranked older female horse, is the second favorite at 9-5...behind Royal delta, in part because of a recent third place finish at Belmont on May 28th.
Sobocinski says while both horses have a great shot to win, they both have questions that need to be answered.

"With Royal Delta, she's going to have to show me that she can put two good races together. If she runs like the Fleur de Lis she's going to be unstoppable, and that's just it. The question is whether she can do that. With Awesome Maria I'm curious if she'll be able to bounce back from that loss."
The Grade 2 Delaware Handicap is a mile and a quarter with a purse of $750,000.
The first race on Delaware Handicap day at Delaware Park is 1:15.
