Mayoral hopeful Scott Spencer would ban online gambling in city

If elected Mayor, Scott Spencer says he'll seek to exempt Wilmington from the state's new online gambling law.

Delaware is the first state to legalize online gambling, and Scott Spencer says he'd like to be the first mayor to create an ordinance banning it.

"It creates another level of social and economic challenges for this city," says Wilmington mayoral hopeful Scott Spencer.

Among the problems, he says it puts youth and senior citizens at-risk, and the workplace.

"This would have an impact under the productivity of employees. For instance, city employees, how do we supervise this potential risk?

Spencer says that disposable income being spent on gambling is better spent at small businesses and restaurants in the city.

"This is just a bad bet for the future of our youth, for small business, and the City of Wilmington," Spencer says.
