Doughnut burgers and pig kissing, just a day at the State Fair

Sweltering heat didn't stop hundreds from coming out for the sights smells and sounds of the Delaware State Fair, in its 93rd year.
Among them, politicians and WDEL's Amy Cherry, who shines the spotlight on an annual summer tradition.

Games, rides, and a pig kissing contest are just some of the fun the Delaware State Fair in Harrington has to offer.
Bob Souza of Salisbury raised the most money for charity--so he kissed the pig. So did Alison Scott--because she raised the least amount of money. I asked them both what's it like to kiss a pig?
"I don't know you'll have to try it sometime," says Souza.
"Like kissing a dog," says Scott, who also told me this wasn't her first time. She raises pigs, so she kisses them all the time!

I asked Souza if it was better than kissing a human, and Scott why she liked pigs so much.
"I've been asked that. No, I love kissing my wife," he said.
Scott likes pigs because "They're smart, and they taste good."

The State Fair also offers some of the more delicious things in life. My goal? To get Governor Markell and Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn to eat them.
"How do you feel about eating a doughnut burger?" I asked the Governor.
"To eating what?! Oh my gosh, that absolutely looks delicious, but I would not want to spoil my appetite for dinner," says Markell.

For Markell it was a tough sell, but the Lieutenant Governor stepped up to the plate, braving the salty burger wedges between two Krispy Kremes.
"It's really good. I'm not going to finish it, but it's really good. That's a State Fair first for me. I've never had a doughnut burger before, and I can't say I'm going to get another one, but I'm glad I did it," says Denn.

And I saw success with luring Markell to eat some other sweet treats.
"What about deep fried Oreos?" I asked Markell.
"I had one the other day, thank you very much..."
"Just one for me?" I begged.
"It is really important to you?" He asked as he took a bite, "Mmm, wow, my life is changed forever," said Markell as he licked his fingers.
