Biz owner catches robbers red-handed, but they get away
State Police say a business owner caught a man and three teenaged girls red-handed as they robbed his store Thursday night, but the robbers got away.
Police say the owner of Stationary Battery on East Newport Pike saw a suspicious car parked outside the store around 10 PM, went inside to investigate, and saw the girls, described as white and between 16 and 18 years old, run to another part of the building.
The male suspect then fought with the owner, punching him in the face and head several times, before the suspects drove away in their car, a silver 4-door.
Police learned the suspects broke into the store by smashing several windows, and stole mobile stereo equipment.
The male suspect is described as black, 20 to 22 years old, about 6-1 with an average build, and was wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans.
