Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett says a new Delaware River dredging contract has been signed.

Corbett says that the $14.55 million contract will deepen the channel from south of the Philadelphia airport to the Walt Whitman Bridge.

Democrats and Republicans from Congress and the General Assembly joined Corbett at a Tuesday morning ceremony in Philadelphia.

Corbett says the deeper channel will allow future giant ships to use the Port of Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania contributed about $1 million to the project to go along with $13.55 million of federal funding.
