Familiar post-season rivals will meet in the regular season for the first time as No. 3 Wesley plays its home opener against No. 4 Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at Miller Stadium.

The two teams last met on December 3, 2011 in the Division III National Quarterfinals, with the Wolverines jumping out to a 21-3 halftime lead before holding on for a 27-24 win.

The victory was Wesley's 4th in 6 meetings between the Wolverines and Cru, with Wesley holding a 2-1 edge in games played in Dover. Wesley beat UMHB 34-20 in the 2006 South Region Championship, but then turned the ball over 5 times in a 27-10 loss during a South Region rematch the following year.

The Cru are off to another fine start after dispatching of previously-ranked Kean 34-7 in Belton, Texas to open the season. Running back Darius Wilson, who Wesley coach Mike Drass is "without a doubt the best running back in Division III" carried the ball 12 times for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns, adding a 4th score on a reception from senior LiDarral Bailey. UMHB's defense held Kean to just 75 yards rushing and 180 yards of offense.

In last year's win, returning Wesley wide receivers Steve Koudossou (3-83) and Matt Barile (5-136) each caught touchdown passes of 56 or more yards, but the Wolverines only return 22 yards of rushing, including just 8 yards from Askia Jahad on 6 carries.

A key stat to follow in the game could be turnovers. Wesley played a clean game last December, while Bailey threw 3 interceptions.

UMHB will have several streaks on the line, including a 25-game regular season winning streak dating back to 2009, and 7 straight non-conference victories.

WDEL will have the game Saturday with pre-game coverage beginning at 11:30am on 1150AM WDEL, WDEL.com, and the WDEL mobile app for smartphones.
