| Gov. Markell explains his reactions to the refinery closure, and his effort to get it re-opened at a campaign stop in Delaware City. | Jobs, the economy and the public school system were all talking points during Governor Markell's tour of the state Saturday, officially launching his re-election campaign.
One of Markell's eight stops was in Delaware City, where he spoke to a crowd largely made up of employees hired back to work when the refinery re-opened in 2011 after a lengthy shutdown.
"In this economic environment what we're here for is, we have this singular focus of putting people back to work. We get to focus on things that could make a difference next week, or next month, like getting this refinery opened."

"And I can tell you that many of the best parts of my job since that restart was when I've had people come up to me. I was in a restaurant and a waitress said to me, 'I've never met you before, I don't really follow politics much, but my husband and my son both worked at the refinery.'"

Markell also made stops in Bethany, Milford, Felton, Dover, Hockessin, Wilmington and Newark.
