After defaulting on payments for repairs to his pick-up truck, one Bear resident used the forklift of a front-end loader to steal it back.

30-year-old Donald Smith II was caught on surveillance video breaking through a fence of the Stop-N-Go off Christiana Road in New Castle Friday night and making off with his 1999 Chevrolet Silverado.

State police followed Smith's front-end loader into the woods behind the Pockets Restaurant and Tavern which led to a 35 minute-long chase down US-13.

It all ended when Smith accidentally drove the front-end loader into a retention pond behind a residence on Camino Court. Smith was able to swim to shore where he was arrested.

He was released after posting $5,750 secured bond.
