Amaro says Phils will get younger
By Don Voltz

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Junior says the team fell victim to the injury bug this year...and he recognizes that is due, at least in part, to the team's aging core.

Amaro said Thursday that the team will be breaking in some younger players while still keeping its goal on reaching the World Series.

"I think we're going to be transitioning into some younger players in certain areas. And at the same time, trying to develop them. They got a little bit of development time this year, in particular the kids in the bullpen. But there is urgency," said Amaro.

The team, meanwhile, added three new coaches on Thursday, including Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, promoted from manager of the team's Triple A affiliate to be the third base coach and infield instructor.

The Phillies also named Steve Henderson their new hitting coach.
