The Wilmington Farmer's Market opens on Rodney Square becoming "the place to be" every Wednesday through October.

A little rain didn't stop the Wilmington Farmer's Market from getting into full swing.

About a dozen vendors showed up selling everything from fruits and veggies to jewelry and scarves.

Tucker Casey manages the farmer's market and says come summer this square will be crowded every Wednesday.

"This year we have 42 vendors. It rained today, so we lost some vendors due to the weather, but in the weeks to come it does get full, and we are sold out throughout the season."

Wilmington Mayor Jim Baker says the market is important to the health of the city's economy.

"Small businesses are now the crux of the economy in my opinion. The big businesses have suffered a great deal, but the smaller businesses produce more jobs than anybody else, and they will be the growth for the future of our economy."
