Sandy forces cancellation of Newark Halloween Parade
Updated Friday, October 26, 2012 - 1:45pm
Hurricane Sandy, nicknamed the Halloween nightmare, has put a stop to Halloween festivities in Newark this weekend.
The city has also canceled its Halloween Parade and Trick-or-Treat Main Street event Sunday afternoon.
Any Newark staff scheduled to work the event will now be available for citywide storm preparations ahead of Sandy.
Newark spokesman Dana Johnston says approximately 1,800 people had been signed up to participate in the 65th annual parade. Participating groups included a Girl Scout troop, a figure skating club and an antique automobile club.
