Surveying Sandy's damage from the skies--that's what WDEL's Amy Cherry had the opportunity to do along with Governor Markell.

Delaware fared better than forecasts had predicted. A sky view showed severe flooding in Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island, two areas that were cutoff almost completely. But Lewes and Rehoboth are remarkably pretty dry.
"I think it's pretty impressive," said Markell.
The Indian River Inlet Bridge, upon initial inspection, looks structurally sound to engineers, despite rumors and fake photos that it had collapsed. But access to it remains shut-off.
"The approach road to the bridge does remain in tact, but I don't have to tell all of you that it's covered in sand and debris," said Governor Markell.

Markell says this is a common problem.
"This was caused by a breach of the barrier dune on the north side of the bridge over here. That's been an ongoing concern for years, and that's something that longtime residents and visitors know," said Markell.

DelDOT hopes to reopen the bridge within 48 hours though there could be some lane restrictions.
A pedestrian walkway under the bridge will remain shutdown in definitely until DNREC can determine how to restore the dunes.
But looking at surrounding states, Sandy could've been a lot worse.
