By Sean Greene 4:57pm, November 2, 2012 - Updated 5:37pm, November 2, 2012Six local youth gridiron teams are joining forces this weekend for some hard hitting football battles and to honor the City of Wilmington's Director of Parks and Recreation.
The Romain Alexander Football Classic begins at 10am Saturday and will feature three games, headlined by a 2pm contest between senior division teams Hard Knock Steelers from Christiana against the Wilmington Titans. The Steelers are 4th in the nation according to the American Youth Football League, while the Titans are 6-0 in the United Youth Football League and have not allowed a point all season. The teams featuring several 7th and 8th graders played a pair of close games last season.
The other matchups include New Castle's Pure Talent Gladiators taking on the No Limit Hurricanes from Wilmington at 10am and a noon game between the junior divisions of the Steelers and Titans.
The day honors Romain Alexander, the Wilmington Director of Parks and Recreation who has been associated with youth sports and the high school DIAA while also working with the city. Event organizer Leonard Williams says "Romain has consistently reached out to help youth people and their families over the years, and it is only appropriate that we honor him for his devotion and spirit of public service.
Admission at Baynard Stadium for all three games is free.
