State Police are investigating the stabbing death of a Newport store owner.

Police say a man with a knife walked into the Newport Penn Bantam Market at 418 Newport-Gap Pike around 7:15pm Friday, jumped the counter and demanded cash from the store owner.

The two men fought, the suspect stabbed the store owner and ran off with some money.

The store owner was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was identified Saturday as 57-year-old Hemantkumar Maganlal Chauhan.

Anyone with information can call 911, State Police homicide detectives, or Crimestoppers.
