A UPS tractor trailer and a CSX freight train collide in Newark, leaving the truck driver in critical condition.

It happened Friday afternoon at the intersection of West Main Street and Elkton Road. Newark Police say Joseph Mounts of Felton was behind the wheel of the tractor trailer making a delivery at a restaurant on West Main Street, just east of the rail crossing.

The truck and trailer were parked on the sidewalk just east of the crossing when the train signal crossings activated, trapping the trailer in place, when the train struck. Mounts was trapped inside the truck and had to be taken to Christiana for head and internal injuries.

The road and railway have re-opened to traffic after being shutdown for more than three hours.
