State wants gag order in soldier's murder case

Delaware prosecutors are seeking a gag order aimed at preventing family members of a soldier accused of kidnapping, raping and killing a North Wilmington woman from talking about the case.
Prosecutors filed the motion in response to a New York Times article this week in which Dwight Smith's father and wife talk about the effect that combat has had on him, including post-traumatic stress disorder. The article was accompanied by a letter Smith wrote to his father expressing concerns about his mental health and suggesting that he became "addicted to killing" during his military service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Prosecutors have said they intend to seek the death penalty against Smith, who was on leave from Fort Drum in New York when 65-year-old Marsha Lee was abducted and killed last December.
