Increase in West Side burglaries leads to increase in WPD patrols
Wilmington police say they're aware of an increase in burglaries and thefts in 2 west-side neighborhoods, and they're asking residents to help them out by reporting anything suspicious.
Police say there have been 8 burglaries in the Wawaset Park area since mid-October, and 5 in the Union Park Gardens area since mid-November.
In most cases, the suspect, or suspects, got into the houses by forcing open a back door or window, and usually stole cash, electronics or other small items.
As a result of the spike in break-ins, police have increased patrols, and they're asking residents who notice suspicious activity to call them or Crimestoppers.
