Rotary's "Pennies for Polio" program raises more than $25K
By Frank Gerace

The local Rotary Club chapter says its "Pennies for Polio" fundraising campaign is a success.

The club announced Thursday that students from 24 schools in the area, including more than 14 thousand students from the Brandywine and Red Clay Districts and several private schools, raised more than 25 thousand dollars for the effort to eradicate polio, a viral disease that affects the central nervous system, and can cause muscle weakness and paralysis.

As of now, the only countries where polio is still endemic are Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan.
