Girl shot by New Year's gunfire in Elkton dies
By Associated Press

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says a 10-year-old struck apparently by a bullet from celebratory gunfire in Elkton has died.

Deputies say Aaliyah Boyer of Manheim, Pa., died Thursday at Dupont Children's Hospital, where she was taken after the incident early Tuesday.

Officers said witnesses reported several people were outside watching fireworks when the child collapsed. Residents said numerous gunshots were heard in the area at the start of the new year. Officials say a trauma injury was observed at the top of the girl's head.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted and the investigation into the incident is continuing.
