Former Congressman Mike Castle (R)A former member of Delaware's Congressional delegation says the fiscal cliff deal signed this week didn't really accomplish much.
Former Congressman Mike Castle tells WDEL News all the deal does is postpone action by lawmakers on several important measures.
"They're gonna have to deal with the spending issues, they put off the sequestration now, which was gonna actually help with the deficit issues. They're gonna have to deal with mandatory spending. The President and others have indicated they're willing to do that, but we don't really know if they will or not."
Castle said Senator Carper was right when he called the fiscal cliff deal a "missed opportunity" to hammer out a permanent solution.
Castle also called for simplifying the federal tax code, whose complexity he said is "burdensome" for individuals and businesses.
