"Today is a great day. Today is a new day," says Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams.
A new day with Chief Christine Dunning at the helm of the Wilmington Police Department.
Dunning was officially sworn in in a ceremony at the City/County Building, an oath she says she takes very seriously.
"I love this city, and I feel privileged to spend my career serving its citizens."
Dunning says she will work hard to renew old connections and develop new relationships with the community. She vows to provide officers with the best training and equipment so they can safely and effectively do their jobs. And she promises...
"To give this community the police department, it deserves."
And Dunning's got her work cut out for her in a city with an alarmingly high crime rate, but Mayor Dennis Williams is confident in his choice.
