Bayhealth surgeon ran out of gas before crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says an orthopedic trauma surgeon who was flying his single-engine airplane ran out of gas before he crashed near Dover.
In a preliminary report released Wednesday, the NTSB says Dr. Clifford Turen was flying from Georgia to Delaware on Jan. 13 when his plane crashed near Dover Air Force Base, killing him.
Investigators say Turen tried to land several times at airports in Delaware and Maryland.
The report said Turen was in contact with air traffic controllers at the base before disappearing from radar. The plane crashed into a stand of trees.
