Singer/TV host Al Alberts dies
By Frank Gerace/AP
Singer and local TV host Al Alberts passed away Friday at age 87.
Alberts, born Al Albertini in Chester in 1922, graduated from South Philadelphia High
School and Temple University, and after a hitch in the Navy, co-founded the '50's singing
group the Four Aces, whose hits included Three Coins in the Fountain and Love is a
Many-Splendored Thing.
Alberts hosted a weekend TV show, Al Alberts Showcase, which featured local talent
from 1966 to 2001.
The show helped launch the careers of performers including Andrea McArdle, Sister
Sledge and Teddy Pendergrass.
Alberts' son Chris worked for WDEL and WSTW for several years, and is now a theater
director in Wilmington.
He says his father died at his home in Arcadia, Florida, near Port Charlotte,
apparently due to complications from kidney failure.
Al Alberts is also survived by his wife Stella and son Al Jr.
