Newark vs. Concord Highlights plus Greer InterviewAfter pulling away with a huge 66-62 upset against A.I. duPont last week, Newark faced off against another Blue Hen Flight-A rival Tuesday night.
With size on Newark's side, the Yellowjackets cruise to 58-41 victory over the Concord Raiders (8-8).
Newark (11-5) opened the game with a statement when Jamar McGriff hit a 3-pointer from downtown.
Concord's Craig Brady, who led all scorers with 19 points, knotted the score at 9, after he drained two free throws.
However, it wouldn't be enough because Newark's seniors answered with a jumper from McGriff, an easy bucket from big man Shikei Blake, and a quick lay up from Marquis Clarke. Newark was up 15-9 and never looked back.
At the half, Newark extended the lead 29-21 when 6-foot-4 guard, Xavier Purnell went inside for the easy lay up.
Yellowjackets' Jahsun Greer, who finished with 14 points, heated up with three 3-pointers in the second half to help lift Newark to their fourth straight victory.
Both teams have a different look from last season, with only four players returning on each squad, however, they faced off once already in mid-December. Newark won that battle 46-43.
With only four games left in the regular season, Newark will head to Appoquinimink Thursday, while Concord will try and bounce back at home against Middletown.
