GOP calls for nat'l search for next DOC Commissioner
A change in the top from the outside is needed at the Department of Correction -- that's what Republican leaders in the House and Senate are saying.
Commissioner Carl Danberg is leaving the top post for a judgeship with the Court of Common Pleas.
He came under harsh criticism for virtually non-existent record keeping at the Sussex Correctional Institute's inmate day labor program.
House Minority Whip Rep. Debbie Hudson says the change needed at the DOC won't happen through a simple shuffling of chairs.
"The Department of Correction has a terrible reputation, they've had incident after incident that required an investigation. It is time forr a new leader," says Hudson (R-Fairthorne).

House Minority Leader Dan Short hopes Governor Markell will conduct a national search to find the next DOC Chief to bring a level of respect back to the embattled department.
"It's hard for someone on the inside to make some of the tough decisions because they're dealing with their friends. A person from the outside would have a whole different perspective on that," says the Seaford Republican.

For now, Karl Hines, a 31-year DOC veteran will serve as Acting Commissioner.
