A Newark man is under arrest, charged in a series of car break ins recently in the community of Becks Woods and the Rockford Apartment complex.

Police put the cuffs to James Schafferman of Cadogan Street. He's been identified as the man spotted standing next to a stolen SUV in the parking lot of the Salem Center Shopping Center last weekend.

When police searched that SUV they found a bag belonging to Schafferman on the passenger seat which contained a number of GPS units thought to have been stolen from other vehicles in the area.

In all, at least half a dozen vehicles were broken into.
