GOP stalwarts to assume party leadership in Sussex
By The Associated Press

Longtime Republican Party leaders in Sussex County are poised to take over the local party's top positions.

Acting chairman John Rieley is unopposed in his bid to become chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee. A district chair, Fred Silva, is the only contender to become vice chair.

The News Journal reports that Rieley and Silva will assume those roles after a meeting and election on March 11. Thursday was the deadline for candidates to register for party leadership positions.

Rieley was named acting chairman after the death of Chairman Jerry Woods on Dec. 28.

Rieley says Sussex is the stronghold for Republicans in Delaware, and he intends to keep it that way. He previously coordinated Christine O'Donnell's U.S. Senate campaign in the county.
