Tyaire Ponzo-Meek scored 23 points as Howard ended Sanford's streak of three straight championships with a 81-62 victory in the 2013 DIAA Boys' Basketball Championship Game Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats jumped on Sanford straight from the jump, using a 13-5 run to end the opening quarter to break open a 21-11 advantage. Larry Woody of Howard and Anthony Mosely of Sanford both scored 9 points in the opening eight minutes.

Howard remained in control in the second quarter, doing a fabulous job of rebounding against the taller Sanford squad while also getting several transition baskets.

Sanford mounted a minor run in the 3rd quarter, getting as close as five at 38-33 before a balanced run of scoring pushed the game to 55-40 going into the 4th.

Howard (23-1) also picked up 16 points from Woody, while Silas Stewart added 15 points and 5 rebounds.

Todd Hughes and Mosely each had 19 points for Sanford (19-5).
