Video: Highlights of Appo vs. Padua girls soccer and interviews

Although the temperature dropped fast just in time for an Appoquinimink (3-0) and Padua girls soccer match, the Jaguars stayed hot and knocked down the defending state champions 1-0 on Thursday evening.

Padua (3-1) held possession the majority of the game and out-shot Appo 12-5, but with seven minutes remaining in the first half Appoquinimink stepped up.

Senior Amanda Weiner dished to Taylor Crofoot, who soared the ball right over Padua goalkeeper Sarah Cushing. It would be the only goal of the night, and that is all Appo needed because their defense came to play.

Appoquinimink's goal keeper, Haley Wahrhaftig earned 10 saves on the night. Padua tested Wahrhaftig on several occasions, especially in the second half, but the senior never backed down showing her incredible reach.

The Jaguars, not only gave Padua their first loss of the season, but they also gave the 2012 champions their first loss since June 2011. Padua will try to rebound against Delmarva Christian on Monday.

Appoquinimink will host another game as they face Delcastle on Saturday morning.
