Senate bill would limit rent hikes
By Tom Lehman

A bill that would limit the amount of money manufactured community owners can charge their tenants is unveiled by state lawmakers.

State Senator Bruce Ennis, a Smyrna Democrat, is the bill's sponsor.

"What this bill says, is 'No more." It says you can't raise rents as high as you'd like to squeeze additional profits our of tenants, who are struggling in many cases to make ends meet," Ennis says.

If the bill is passed, owners could only increase rents by an average of the consumer price index over the prior three years--unless they can prove special circumstances that justify the price hike.
