Wilmington homeless shelter closing
By Tom Lehman

A social services agency announces it is closing down its emergency shelter for the homeless in Wilmington.

Connections Community Support Programs says it will no longer offer daytime and overnight emergency shelter services at its facility at 801 West Street starting June 30.

Connections officials made the decision based on concerns from community members over the shelter’s presence in the West Center City area.

But the nonprofit also says many complaints of nuisance behavior were often inaccurately attributed to Connections clients.

Nevertheless, Connections intends to let its state contract expire and has no plans for further development in that area of the city.
