A local non-profit that has sent more than 6,500 foster kids to plays, concerts and sporting events honors a child advocate.

The Kind to Kids Foundation awarded Ellen Levin with its Community Service Award at its annual spring celebration Friday. Levin says she got to see how the foundation benefits kids when she worked at last December's holiday party.

"The children were able to select a book or two and some toys for their holiday celebration, and in many cases, it's the first time the child's been able to have a book that they can keep," says Levin.

Kind to Kids sends kids to event through ticket donations from partner organizations and also teaches life skills to children in foster care.
