The event also let officials from Red Clay School district unveil plans for a new theatre to be constructed in the space where the original one, which was built in the 1960s, currently stands.

Cab Calloway's dean, Julie Rumschlag, says constructing a new theatre has been one of her goals since she joined the school in 1999.

"We already had a theatre that was in disrepair at that time and I remember sitting down...and talking with some architects about what we needed to do to create a state-of-the-art facility," Rumschlag says.

Rumschlag says the new facility will cost $6 million, but was approved as part of a prior referendum.

Marcin Michalski, the manager of facilities and maintenance for Red Clay school district says the facility is expected to open in August 2014 and will be a major improvement from the old theatre.

"This is going to be the theatre that everyone's going to be proud to say this is where I went to school, this is where I put on a play," Michalski says.

Michaelski says the facility will seat 950, a smaller number than the current seating capacity. However, he says the facility will be also ADA compliant.

Graduating senior Caroline Colino expressed her fond memories of the theatre that she once performed at.

"On this stage I have learned my strengths, my weaknesses. I have created friendships, stories. We have created memories," Colino says.

Rumschlag says Cab Calloway students will continue performing at a variety of different venues, including middle schools, while the construction on the new theatre occurs.
