Pedestrian struck by a patrol car in Dewey Beach
By Gianna Banner

State police are investigating a crash that sent a pedestrian to Christiana Hospital.

Police say, Brian McDermott of Bryn Mawr, was walking northbound on Coastal Highway, when a officer assigned to Troop 7 hit him as he was straddling the shoulder.

McDermott was struck by a fully marked patrol car just before 1:30 a.m. He is in critical condition.

The Trooper was properly restrained and not injured.

Police say, preliminary indications have determined that alcohol does appear to be a factor on the part of the pedestrian.
