Senator Bobby Marshall is calling for a 10-cent increase in the gas tax to help boost Delaware's economy.

"A one-time increase in the gas tax that over five years generates $725 million, and we would apportion that money out per year, for example, it could cover minor cap (capital) school projects, debris pits, bridges, bike paths," he says.

The Wilmington Democrat says Senate Bill 31 or the Delaware Works Trust Fund would kick-start the economy, particularly on the blue collar construction side.

"Local governments could participate from Dover to Wilmington, to Georgetown to Dagsboro, Millsboro, and provide employment opportunities for adults who are unemployed and who are ready and willing to work, but just can't find employment," he says.

Marshall the bill will get some serious consideration in the closing weeks of the state legislature.
