The double shooting happened in the rear parking lot of America's Best Value Inn on the 1100 block of South College Avenue around 1:09 p.m. Monday.

"An adult female and an adult male walked into the motel office and reported that they had both been shot," says Newark Police spokesman Lt. Mark Farrall.

Farrall says the 38-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were shot by an acquaintance, who remains at large.

The woman suffered a graze wound to her back, while the man sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder. They have both been released from Christiana Hospital.

Police performed a room-to-room search at the motel but did not discover the shooter. Farrall says investigators had information that led them to believe the shooter may have returned to the hotel.

Farrall says officers are seeking someone but wouldn't name a suspect late Monday afternoon.
