Sen. Coons appointed to powerful Appropriations Committee

For the first time in 40 years, Delaware will get a vote on one of the Senate's most powerful committees.

Senator Chris Coons has been appointed to the influential Appropriations Committee.

Coons tells WDEL that in this time of wallet-tightening in Washington, Delaware needs a seat at the table.

"I think it's more important than ever to have advocates in the Senate who will fight for Delaware's priorities, who will insist on investing in infrastructure, and in education, in research and in caring for the most vulnerable of society." says Coons

Coons says his priorities will be to create jobs and help existing business grow.

He'll also focus on supporting innovative research and giving law enforcement the tools they need to keep communities safe.

Coons is only the fourth Delawarean to ever serve on this committee.
