Delawareans are taking time out to celebrate the nation's independence with Fourth of July festivities scheduled up and down the state.

Gov. Markell planned to join Thursday's celebration by walking in the Smyrna/Clayton Fourth of July Parade.

The parade stepped off at 9:30 a.m. at Main Street and School Lane and ends on Reed Street. WDEL is there.

In Dover, the daylong celebration includes a bell ringing ceremony Thursday afternoon at the Old State House, followed by a parade at 6 p.m. and fireworks around 9:30 p.m.

Wilmington's 4th of July celebration begins at 4 p.m. in Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park. Macy Gray will take the place of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and fireworks will blast off into the sky tonight.
