Alcohol appears to be a factor in a two-car crash in Wilmington that sent a total of six people to the hospital.

Police say Paul Waters of Wilmington was driving at a high rate of speed on Spruce Street around 12:30 a.m., when he ran a red light at the intersection of East 7th Street and crashed into another car. He was admitted to the hospital in serious condition.

A man riding in Waters' car was thrown from vehicles in the crash and county paramedics say he was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the second car was trapped in her car for about 25 minutes and had to be extricated. She was hospitalized in serious condition.

Three other passengers in Waters' car were also taken to the hospital.
