Del. killer resentenced to death
By Associated Press

A killer whose conviction and death sentence were overturned by a Superior Court judge last year has been resentenced to death.

Superior Court Judge John Parkins reimposed the death sentence Friday against 40-year-old Jermaine Wright for a 1991 liquor store killing.

Parkins set an execution date of Nov. 1, then immediately granted an unopposed defense request to stay the execution pending further state court appeals.

Parkins overturned Wright's conviction and death sentence last year, ruling that Wright had not been properly advised of his rights during a lengthy interrogation that ended in a confession, and because prosecutors withheld potentially exculpatory evidence.

But the state Supreme Court reversed Parkins' decision earlier this year and ordered that Wright's murder conviction and death sentence be reimposed.
