Carney tells WDEL's Delaware Afternoon News that while a college education is valuable, it also needs to be affordable.
"We need to make sure that that training anf education is available to more students, and in order to do that, it's got to be affordable, and it isn't today, and that's what we heard from the participants in the roundtable," says Carney.
School guidance counselors have told Carney that parents need to be more involved when it comes to planning for their children to go to college. They added they get little time and virtually no training for helping students navigate the college application process.
The roundtable discussion in Dover was the first in a series of meetings about the challenges of higher education costs and possible long-term solutions.
