Wilmington hisorical beer tour to occur on Saturday

You can learn about Wilmington's history with breweries and beer during a tour offered on Saturday.

Did you know that beer was once brewed at Fort Christina?

"They were brewing whatever they could with whatever ingredients they had available," says Brian Medkeff, a beer historian who's leading a tour across Wilmington along with the Delaware Historical Societyon Saturday.

Medkeff says the tour, begins at Iron Hill Brewery at 9:45 a.m. and returns around 1:00 p.m., offers a

"It's part-walking tour, part-riding tour and we're gonna be traveling through 13 different historic sites in the city that have some association with brewing," Medkeff says.

He says Wilmington's fizzy and hoppy history goes back centuries.

"In the Industrial Revolution, there were three large breweries I like to call 'The Big Three," hesays. "They were located at 5th and Adams streets, at 5th and DuPont streets, and Lovering Ave. and N. Scott Street."

Admission costs $45 for those who aren't members of the Delaware Historical Society.
