A tractor-trailer fire on Northbound I-295 had traffic crawling Friday afternoon and evening.

The blaze has been extinguished but one lane is currently closed as of 5:30 p.m. DelDOT says the fire happened near Mike’s Famous Harley Davidson and the driver of the truck jumped to safety.

All four lanes of I-295 Northbound were closed as firefighters battled the blaze and only the extreme left shoulder was open to traffic.

Members of the Delaware River and Bay Authority are currently removing cotton fabric that was hauled in the truck from the roadway.

DelDOT says the three left lanes are open to traffic. The right lane and shoulder remain closed. As a result, northbound traffic on I-95 is jammed beginning all the way down at the welcome center. Those conditions persisted through at least 10:00 p.m.

An investigation into the truck fire is underway.
