About 100 friends of Newark National gathered at Timothy's of Newark to watch Delaware's champions claim the state's first ever victory at the Little League World Series Friday night.
The crowd had plenty to cheer for early in the game during Newark's five-run 1st inning, but had to sweat out some anxious moments as the team from Iowa brought the tying run to the plate in the 6th inning before Nate Hardcastle's strikeout to clinch the game.
During the game, the team held a silent auction and raffle featuring items like front-row Phillies tickets and a signed baseball by the Newark National squad. The bidding and ticket sales raised about $400, in addition to the 15% of proceeds from the dinner bills and 100% of t-shirt sales.
The team has already planned another viewing party at Timothy's for Sunday afternoon for the 2nd round matchup with California. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
