State police say a Marydel man was hospitalized in critical condition after a serious accident that shut down Northbound I-495.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on the Christina River Brige, where police say a fiberglass bed liner fell out of utility trailer pulled by a pickup truck.

Police say the driver, Steven Schwan of Hartly, stopped the vehicle and Charles Tucker went out to retrieve the bed liner.

However, the trailer was struck by a car driven by Phillip Amaro of Media, Pa., causing it to hit Tucker and launch him 10 feet into the air.

Tucker was taken to Christiana Hospital by helicopter and was admitted in critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

Police say charges could be pending at the conclusion of the investigation.
