Christiana Care Health System opens a newly expanded joint replacement center at Wilmington Hospital.

Dr. Brian Galinet tells NBC10 there are 30 new private rooms for patients, new physical therapy gyms, and 13 new operating rooms.

"One of the first arthroscopies in the United States of America was done in this building, the older part behind us, so we're just continuing the history of christiana Care going forward," he said.

The center performs more than 2,000 joint replacements a year. Consumer Reports lists Christiana Care Health System among the top in the nation for knee replacements. The expansion is part of Wilmington Hospital's 210 million-dollar expansion project that will ultimately mean about 600 new jobs in the city.
