Plea deal reached in Del. campaign finance probe
By Randall Chase, Associated Press

State prosecutors have reached a plea agreement with a prominent Dover developer accused of making illegal campaign contributions to Gov. Jack Markell in 2008.

Michael Zimmerman pleaded not guilty earlier this month after being charged with making campaign contributions without divulging their true source.

But attorneys told a judge this week that they've reached a plea agreement in the case. A hearing is set for Sept. 10.

Prosecutors allege that Zimmerman made the illegal campaign contributions in October 2008.

Zimmerman's attorney was not available for comment Friday. Attorney General Beau Biden's office declined to comment, as did an independent counsel Biden appointed to investigate illegal campaign contributions.

In a separate federal court case, Zimmerman is facing bank fraud and conspiracy charges for allegedly diverting construction loans for unauthorized purposes.
